Emergency Care
Orthodontic emergencies are uncommon, but we’re here to help when they arise. If you experience severe pain or an appliance issue you can’t manage, please contact us immediately. For minor issues like poking wires, you can use soft wax or gently adjust with needle-nosed pliers. Always bring any loose pieces to your appointment.
Managing Discomfort
Initial soreness from braces is normal and usually eases within a few days. To alleviate discomfort:
- Opt for soft foods.
- Rinse with a warm salt-water solution.
- Use Acetaminophen for pain, but avoid Aspirin and Ibuprofen as they can slow tooth movement.
For irritation from braces, apply dental wax. This will improve as your mouth adjusts to the braces.
Common Orthodontic Issues
- Headgear: Wear as directed to minimize discomfort. Contact us if it’s bent or painful.
- Loose Appliance: Cover any poking parts with wax.
- Loose Bracket or Wire: Apply wax for comfort and bring any detached pieces to your appointment.
- Poking Wire: Use a pencil eraser or wax to push down or cover the poking wire.
